This years annual report is dedicated
to Albert S. Nadeau.
Albert was raised on a Johnson farm
prior to working at the Talc Mill and commencing a
life long tradition of heavy construction including
welding, equipment operations, maintenance, and foreman.
He was involved in several projects in Lamoille Co.
and in the Burlington area from 1934 to 1942. This
work included the construction of the twin bridges
on Pearl Street (1937-38).
Government officials intercepted Albert
at the Induction Center after he volunteered for service
in World War II. They assigned him to a special welding
division at National Lead, a defense company operating
in the Adirondack Mountains, which produced munitions
and war materials.
Albert and his wife Anita, also from
a Town farm, returned to Johnson and founded the Nadeau
Sand and Stone business in 1946 at its present site.
It was at this time that he began an involvement in
the community that has lasted for years and included
furnishing electrical power during the post war shortages,
serving as selectman, allowing the utilization of
an on site aquifer for the village water system, selling
aggregates below costs for Town use, and generally
sharing his knowledge with officials on a wide range
of public works problems.
The common sense approach to problems
coupled with a sound judgement were and continue to
be his strength, even at 82 years of age.
