The Town of Johnson dedicates this Annual Report to
Larry Rogers with the utmost gratitude for his outstanding
service to the Town of Johnson for over 25 years.
Larry was born on February 5, 1943. His parents were
Royal and Shirley Patch Rogers. Larry's father was fighting
in the second World War when Larry was born. Later on
in the war he was killed in action. Larry never knew
his father. He was raised by his grandparents, Mark
and Katy Patch, on the Patch farm in Johnson. His grandparents
instilled a lot of family values in Larry's life, which
were very apparent throughout his life. Larry worked
on his grandparents farm throughout his teen years.
He graduated from high school in 1961. Later that year
he married Betty. In 1962 Larry and Betty moved to Randolph
Center. Larry went to Vt. Technical College, for agriculture.
After college he farmed in Rutland, Richmond and in
1969 we moved back to Johnson to work on the J.A. Maxham
farm (formerly the Patch farm). In 1970 Larry went to
work for the Town of Johnson, then went to work for
Frank Dodge & Sons for four years. When Frank and
his family moved to Colorado to work, Larry went back
to work for the town. He worked for the Town for twenty
five years. Larry enjoyed working for the town throughout
the years. But his main fear in the winter was hearing
we were going to have an Ice Storm. I'm sure his co.
workers could tell quite a few stories about Larry and
ice.
Larry and Betty raised three children, Royal, Sandra,
and Cheryl. Sandra and Cheryl both married, and each
have two children. Royal still lives at home.
Larry enjoyed being with his family, working on the
antique tractors and going to tractor pulls. He also
liked driving around the neighborhood on his tractor,
visiting with the neighbors. Larry lost his ten month
battle with cancer on November 14, 2002.
Larry will be missed by all who knew him.
