The Town of Johnson dedicates this Annual Report to
our Firemen with sincere gratitude for their outstanding
service.
This past year has seen much activity around the Johnson
Fire Department. In addition to the continuous training
and work details, the department has responded to a
record number of emergencies. In addition to fire calls,
there were motor vehicle accidents, water rescue calls,
lost person searches, and the well-publicized bomb threat
in downtown Johnson, during which the Department worked
throughout the night to insure the safety of our residents.
An Early Warning system has also been installed to help
alert residents in the event of a widespread emergency.
This "siren" can be heard during the monthly
tests conducted at seven o'clock in the evening on the
last Thursday of each month.
In a recent development, the Department's Water Rescue
team is working in conjunction with Vermont Emergency
Management and the Vermont Air National Guard to provide
a response team for water related incidents throughout
the state. This is the result of many years of training
and dedication put forth by the Department.
The Department continues to promote fire safety on all
levels, from its active fire prevention program taught
to children in the schools, to the Safe Home program,
which provides smoke alarms and batteries to the Senior
Citizens of Johnson.
You may also see the department around town as they
are often involved in many activities other than emergency
calls; such as burning grass in the spring, hauling
water during the drought of the summer, cleaning chimneys
in the fall and building the skating rink in the winter.
